Microsoft Desktop Deployment Planning Services can help you lower the cost and complexity of deploying new software and can help you achieve the most cost-effective desktop environment. The services, provided by Microsoft Certified Partners or by Microsoft Consulting Services, will introduce you to advanced techniques, processes, and tools. Your consultant will work with you to identify your unique business needs and will help you create a comprehensive deployment plan. This plan, designed to provide a secure and well-managed desktop environment, will help you extend the business value of your Microsoft Office or Windows software upgrade. Microsoft Desktop Deployment Planning Services offers 1 to 15 days of deployment planning services, depending on the amount of
Microsoft Software Assurance that you purchase for Microsoft Office software.
Overview
Each interactive session of Desktop Deployment Planning Services is collaborative, comprehensive, and based on best practices from Microsoft. Your dedicated consultant will create a detailed blueprint for a seamless transformation of your business and technical environment.
You will begin by participating in a series of focused strategy and technical sessions, including the following:
- Discovery session. This session provides a full assessment of your desktop environment to help your consultant understand your needs and how you can take advantage of best practices and tools from Microsoft.
- Customer presentation. During this session, your consultant will introduce Zero Touch and other Microsoft technologies and processes that lead to successful desktop deployment.
- Architecture design session. Your consultant will outline critical technical aspects of desktop deployment, such as security, software, and network designs. In addition, you'll consider how new technology will integrate with your existing environment.
- Strategy briefing and technical drilldown session. This session helps define the vision for achieving your technical and business goals. Your consultant will demonstrate the value of migrating applications and lowering costs through automated deployment and desktop management. At the end of this session, your team will have a clear understanding of the issues you will encounter, supported by fundamental planning decisions.
- Proof-of-concepts lab. By using automation, this lab demonstrates the possible outcomes of deployment. It is included in 5-, and 10-day engagements. At the end of the lab, you'll receive a Customized Deployment Plan that summarizes the entire process and outcomes.
Eligibility
The DDPS (Desktop Deployment Planning Services) is offered in four different engagement lengths; one, three, five and ten day. The three, five, and ten day sessions have a common goal; an onsite discovery of the customers current environment, a high level remediation plan to assist the customer with assuring their infrastructure is optimized for the Solution Framework, and a high level deployment plan to assure the customer is utilizing proven methodologies to guarantee a successful desktop operating system and Office upgrade. These on site discoveries are also combined with lab sessions for the five and ten day engagements.
The number of days of deployment planning services you are eligible for is based on the amount you spend on Software Assurance for Microsoft Office programs. Software Assurance spending is calculated at the initial sale; as you purchase additional Software Assurance coverage, it is added to your total until the benefit is activated.

You can convert unused training days to increase your services days, with a maximum of 15. Review the Microsoft Product List for eligible conversion options.

Getting Started
- Ensure that you have administrative rights to activate Packaged Services, or contact your Notices Contact or Software Assurance Benefits Administrator.
- Sign in to Microsoft Volume License Services.
- In the left navigation bar, click Software Assurance Benefits.
- Under Benefits Summary, click Desktop Packaged Services.
- Optional: Increase the number of days for Desktop Deployment Planning Services by applying training vouchers. This may require approval from your Benefits Administrator.
- Follow the instructions to assign the Desktop Deployment Planning Services voucher to a project manager within your organization and create a voucher.
