How eSentio Will Add Value
eSentio consultants offer a more comprehensive approach to evaluating your firm’s readiness for Office and Vista 2007 because they integrate their extensive knowledge of legal-specific applications into the evaluation process. In addition, they have a significant level of insight into the importance of why certain applications, such as DMS, are critical to the specific business of large law firms. Along with this understanding, the Jumpstart team has considerable expertise in DMS, practice management tools, accounting systems and cost recovery which they will incorporate into your deployment evaluation and the recommendations that follow. As a Microsoft certified partner, eSentio technologies can also provide information and updates to clients on when Microsoft-proposed workarounds are viable for the legal industry.

Firm Eligibility
The DDPS (Desktop Deployment Planning Services) is offered in four different engagement lengths; one, three, five and ten day. The three, five, and ten day sessions have a common goal; an onsite discovery of the customers current environment, a high level remediation plan to assist the customer with assuring their infrastructure is optimized for the Solution Framework, and a high level deployment plan to assure the customer is utilizing proven methodologies to guarantee a successful desktop operating system and Office upgrade. These on site discoveries are also combined with lab sessions for the five and ten day engagements.
The number of days of deployment planning services you are eligible for is based on the amount you spend on Software Assurance for Microsoft Office programs. Software Assurance spending is calculated at the initial sale; as you purchase additional Software Assurance coverage, it is added to your total until the benefit is activated.
| Software Assurance spend (US$) | Days |
| $150,000 | 3 |
| $600,000 | 5 |
| $1,250,000 | 10 |
You can convert unused training days to increase your services days, with a maximum of 15. Review the Microsoft Product List for eligible conversion options.

Why Should I Consider This Now?
The DDPS (Desktop Deployment Planning Services) includes three major tools that look at a sites readiness for Office 2007 and/or Vista. One of the tools is the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment (WVHA) which is used to analyze the hardware of all client PCs and create reports of the PCs that need replacing or upgraded in some way. Another tool called the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) is used to analyze applications in use throughout the firm and identify those that could have typical issues along with possible fixes. For example, for some applications in order to work on Vista may need to be run in a lower compatibility mode such as Windows XP mode. The final tool is the Office Migration Planning Manager (OMPM) which is used to perform light or deep scans of all the office files on PCs and generate reports regarding which files may have problems. The reports can group the types of problems into levels of severity so the firm can determine if these files are important documents and need to be checked further.
When a Firm begins planning early, they help themselves by allowing time for upgrades in the budget, time to test critical applications for compatibility issues and find resolutions, and time to fix essential documents prior to upgrading. Sometimes the reports generate that peace of mind by simply confirming that there are not files that have issues with 2007, or applications that won’t run on Viista or that new hardware purchased last year only needs a bit more memory and no major adjustments to function.
